"A Shepard's Call"

A Shepard boy! Escorts his sheep!
From danger, he would free!

And protects each lamb! With his own life!
Through wilderness, and trees!

Mary and Joseph crossed his path!
Premonitions of what would be!

She felt the infant move inside!
A whispered prayer unseen!

"A flock of many colors found!
On the trail of daybreak's light!"

A babe in Bethlehem! Born this day!
On a sacred and holy night!

Dreams and hopes before Him!
As angels guide His way!

The Shepard of mankind has come!
To gather sheep astray!

POET'S COMMENTS

A friend ask me to write a poem to go with this wonderful painting of Mary and Joseph. As Mary is soon to give life to the Savior of mankind, many thoughts must have gone through her mind. It was years later before she would learn the destiny of her child. As He declared, "I am the Good Shepard."

"I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." (John 10:11)

A Shepard's calling is to guide, gather, guard, and protect his flock. This he can only do, if each will recognize his voice, and follow his instructions. If a lamb is lost, he will try to find it. But in the end those who wish to be safe will not go astray.

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine." (John 10:14)

There is a great gathering taking place in the world today. Each of us choose daily our allegiance to good or evil. In the day of judgment those choices, will determine our future glory.

"And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: (Matthew 25:32)"

May we all choose to follow Our Savior, The Good Shepard!
