"Be Still"

Be still . . . . . Trust in me.
Be still . . . . . For I am God.

Be still . . . . . I am with you.
Be still . . . . . I bring you peace.

Be still . . . . . Listen to my voice.
Be still . . . . . Witness the miracle to unfold.

Be still . . . . . Be still . . . . . Be still.

POET'S COMMENTS

Two words bursting with wisdom. Together they offer divine counsel that is profound.

As a child my mother would say, "Be still!" She was really saying in a polite way; "Stop what you are doing!" "Be quiet!" "Calm down!" "Sit!" "Don't move!" "Pay attention!" "Behave yourself!"

As an adult the phrase "be still" has evolved to a much deeper meaning. For those seeking truth, "being still" implies a barrage of behavior. Stop! Step Back! Wait! Patience! Listen! Hear! Watch! See! Witness! Observe! Think! Reason! Feel! Choose! Now act!

With the act of "being still" impulses are restrained, emotions corralled, reactions subdued. A sense of control, discipline, and self mastery are exhibited. Once employed, one can act instead of reacting.

Imagine the ability of "being still" in most situations! The power to influence the outcome is phenomenal. There is a reverence instilled in the moment that opens the door to the light of Christ and the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Some may believe that "being still" is synonymous with finding one's sacred grove and communing with deity. Certainly, it would be prerequisite to any revelatory experience. Many times "being still" is preparatory to perceiving the miracle.

Being still is applicable to the day to day experiences. The fruits of "being still" can occur in the car driving to work and seeing the sunrise, lounging in an airport reflecting on life, in a bedroom sitting on the bed next to a small child while consoling them. There are no fences or boundaries barring it's appropriateness. No matter what the environment or situation, "being still" can reap wonderful results and often chosen blessings.

The virtue in "being still" is in the illumination of the mind, enlightenment of the soul, and the fostering of perfection. May we all see and feel the hidden miracles in life by simply, "being still." "Therefore, let your hearts be comforted...; for all flesh is in mine hands, be still and know that I am God." (D&C 101:16)
